NSU Tampa OT Students Assist the Elderly to Get the Best “Car” Fit
NSU Tampa’s Occupational Therapy class had 30 students from the classes of 2016 and 2017 volunteer at an event called CarFit. The event, sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation, the Department of Elder Affairs, AARP and AAA, is designed to help senior citizens modify their cars to ensure they are safe on the road.
Activities included working with the participants to ensure their seat is adjusted properly and emphasizing the importance of using rear view and side mirrors. The Occupational Therapy students expressed their enjoyment of the hand-on training received at the beginning of their program as opposed to simply reading the textbook.
