NSU recently co-hosted “The Power of Economic Partnerships, Development and Diversity in Tampa Bay,”

A groundbreaking discussion and networking event, “The Power of Economic Partnerships, Development and Diversity in Tampa Bay,” was recently co-hosted by Nova Southeastern University’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship, the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The 57 guests who attended were able to gain insight on the local economy, foreign trade in our community, transportation, the importance of diversity in the workplace and tips on how to take your business to the next level. Guests also learned about the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and scholarship opportunities, said Michael Abraham, Tampa campus assistant director.

The June 22 panel was moderated by Jennifer Whelihan, M.A., economic development manager of Hillsborough County, and included panelists: Beatrice Louissaint, president & CEO of Florida Minority Supplier Development Council; Robert Preziosi, D.P.A., professor of management, H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business; and Michelle Bauer, vice president of marketing and communications, Tampa Hillsborough County Economic Development Council.

“This is type of event takes advantage of the unique expertise of leaders from NSU, the South Tampa Chamber and the Hispanic Chamber,” said Racquel Khuri, Director of NSU’s Tampa Campus. “The groundbreaking scope of the debate and exchange of information will only help further positive economic growth in the Tampa Bay area and opportunity for our residents.”

According to NSU’s Professor Preziosi, “Tampa Bay’s economy is growing very well because there has been a lot of good leadership and growth in industries such as high tech, higher education and hospitality.”

“To continue the positive economic development that Tampa Bay is currently experiencing,” Preziosi said, “everyone has to keep in mind that developing leadership for tomorrow is what will keep it rolling and is the priority, not leadership yesterday or today.”

Other panelists called on Tampa Bay companies to think more globally and develop international business partners, and to also encourage a better job in the recruitment of millennial workers.

The event was sponsored by HCCTB, Tampa Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce, Florida State Minority Supplier Development Council, Nova Southeastern University Tampa, Eats American Grill and NAKED Fit Foods.
