NSU Students Inducted into National Honor Society for Marine Science

New Members of Honor Society for Marine Science

New Members of Honor Society for Marine Science

Eight undergraduate students from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences have been inducted into the NSU chapter of Rho Rho Rho (PPP), the national honor society recognizing top marine biology majors and minors. The college recently hosted an induction ceremony and reception for the students.

This year had the largest number of inductees since the PPP Beta chapter was established at NSU in 2008. New members include Shannon Aldridge, Camille Evans, Jared Fish, Daniel Schneck, Savannah Simmons, Collier Strenkert, Ian Towne, and Alexandra Zatylny.

After welcoming remarks by Joshua Feingold, Ph.D., professor at the college and faculty adviser for PPP, chapter president Peri Bowman led the induction. Each new member pledged to promote academic excellence and interest in the marine sciences. They also received certificates of induction and seashell key chains (hand-crafted by current members) as symbols of their commitment to the field.

A reception followed the formal ceremony. The inductees were joined in celebration by friends and family, current PPP members, and Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., dean of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences.

Pictures from the induction ceremony are available in the college’s online Photo Gallery.

About Rho Rho Rho

To become a member of Rho Rho Rho, a student must have declared a major or minor in marine biology at NSU, completed at least 30 credits, earned at least a 3.0 GPA in marine biology courses and an overall GPA of at least 3.2, and be in good academic standing at the university.

Rho Rho Rho’s Alpha chapter was founded at the University of Miami in 1990 and its Beta chapter at NSU in 2008. By providing an incentive for students to excel, PPP aims to attract more marine biology majors and minors to NSU and create a more dynamic experience for the current students.
