Two NSU Student-Athletes Make Swimming and Diving Program History at NCAA Championships

The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams made history Friday during the third night of finals at the 2013 NCAA Division II national championship.

Senior Erin Black (Fort Myers, Fla.) left nothing in the water, as she successfully defended her 500-yard freestyle title and became a two-time champion in the event. Her time of 4:50.29 defeated the first-place seed, Anjali Shakya of UC San Diego, by over one second to win the race. Black is the only female in program history to win back-to-back NCAA Division II individual titles.

In the men’s event, Oskar Nordstrand (Sr. Stockholm, Sweden) became the first male in program history ever to be crowned an NCAA DII champion. Nordstrand’s time of 4:23.55 beat out second-place Mark Rubin by over a second to win the event.
