NSU Student-Athletes give back to the Community

Sharks helping out at the Bike Wash.

The Nova Southeastern University cross country and track and field teams volunteered for the Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon on Sunday, Sept. 25. In order to assist the 1800 participants who competed in the race, the Sharks brought30 athletes, who in addition to assisting racers at two water stations, helped participants in their transitions from swimming to biking and from biking to running.

The Nova Southeastern softball team has spent two days this fall helping support its community and raise money for cancer research. On Sept. 18, the student-athletes of the 2012 NSU softball team were among 300 volunteers that participated in the NSU “A Day for Children” event. The event was centered around providing a fun environment for the children of the Fort Lauderdale area and the softball team helped keep everyone cool by distributing water and refilling ice buckets. The team also helped hand out pizza and even participated in some pick up soccer with the kids.

On Oct. 1, the softball team participated in the Bike Wash at Rick Case Honda Powerhouse. The event raised money for “Ride for Kids,” a fund for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research fund.
