NSU Student Earns First SSC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Award
Nova Southeastern University women’s soccer player Sierra Lelii has been chosen as the first Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Lelii (R-Sr., Seminole, Fla.) scored four goals, most in the SSC for any player, men’s or women’s. She scored twice in each of the Sharks’ two road wins this past weekend in North Carolina, and furthermore, her second goal in each match proved to be the game-winner.
In the opener Friday against Catawba, she tallied the first score of the season, just four minutes in, and added the game-winner, making the final 3-2 margin, with just over seven minutes left off a tap from an indirect free kick. Then against Pfeiffer on Sunday, she hit two goals in the span of 3:27 to push the Sharks out 3-0 in an eventual 5-2 win. All told, she had 13 shots in the two victories, nine coming on goal, for a .692 shot-on-goal percentage.
Lelii and the Sharks take on Florida Memorial on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in the team’s home opener.
