NSU Staff Members Present at State Conference

Several faculty and staff members from NSU’s Mailman Segal Center for Human Development and NSU’s College of Heath Care Sciences Occupational Therapy Department recently gave a presentation entitled,  “Implementation of Weighted/Compression Vest Protocol in the School Setting to Maximize Self-Regulation,” at the Florida Occupational Therapy Association’s state conference.

Those presenting were: Rachel DeCarie MOT, OTR/L; Rachel Khalifa, M.S., OTR/L and Nicole Wilson, M.S., OTR/L, occupational therapists from the Baudhuin Preschool at the Mailman Segal Center, and Sonia Kay, Ph.D. OTR/L, Occupational Therapy Department in the College of Health Care Sciences.

The work presented represented the use of the weighted/compression vest as an intervention strategy for children with autism, used by occupational therapists to facilitate increased attention and emotional regulation.
