NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Larry A. Calderon, Ed.D., May 4
Aurélien Tartar, M.S., Ph.D., assistant professor of biology at Nova Southeastern University’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, will be the featured speaker at NSU’s Speaker’s Forum on Friday, May 4. His presentation is titled: “Mosquito control: a local and global challenge.”
Tartar’s research interests are centered on insect-associated microbes, including both symbiotic and pathogenic microorganisms. His current work examines the potential of several mosquito pathogens as alternative and ecofriendly bioinsecticides. This research has been initiated through several President’s Faculty Research and Development Grants and is now funded by a federal grant through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. At NSU, Tartar teaches courses in molecular biology, genomics, and bioinformatics, and uses his research program as a platform to expose undergraduate students to genome sequencing technologies and biological engineering. Tartar, who has been with NSU since 2008, received an M.S. degree from AgroParisTech in 1998 and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Florida in 2004.
The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum, hosted by Larry Calderon, Ed.D., NSU vice president for community and governmental affairs, takes place each Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The forum will be held in room 5026 of the Carl DeSantis Building.
