NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Dr. Larry A. Calderon, Sept. 30
Maria Espinola, community research coordinator for Nova Southeastern University’s Center for Psychological Studies professor Lenore Walker, E.d.D, ABPP and founder of the Student Coalition for Human Rights at NSU, will be the featured speaker at NSU’s Speaker’s Forum on Friday, Sept. 30. She will discuss the Hispanic Boom and its impact on U.S. Educational, Social and Political Systems. This event is part of NSU’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.
Since she arrived at NSU in 2008, Espinola has received the NSU Honors Award from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, the Honors Admission into the doctoral program at the Center for Psychological Studies (CPS) from the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences, a grant from the Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement, the APA Travel Award, and the Chancellor’s Faculty Research and Development Grant.
She received additional funding to conduct 24 human rights events from the Division of Student Affairs, Student Government Associations, CPS, and the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her advocacy work has been featured on the media more than 14 times including on NBC News, CBS News, and the Miami Herald. She is also featured on the NSU Video Forum, NSU Horizons Magazine, NSU Spotlights, CPS brochures, and posters. She has over 4,500 friends and followers on social networking sites.
The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum, hosted by Larry A. Calderon, Ed.D., Nova vice president for community and governmental relations, takes place each Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Buffet breakfast will be served.
