NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Dr. Larry A. Calderon, Oct. 1

Carsten Evans, assistant dean for continuing education at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Pharmacy (COP), teaches COP students about the Medicinal and Healing Garden & Reflexology Pathway.

Carsten Evans, Ph.D., assistant dean for continuing education at NSU’s College of Pharmacy, will be the featured speaker at the NSU Speaker’s Forum on Oct. 1. He will talk about the recent changes that took place at the old Medicinal Garden – located in the heart of NSU’s main campus between the Alvin Sherman Library and the Parker Building – that turned it into the current Medicinal and Healing Garden & Reflexology Pathway.

In the spring, NSU unveiled the first foot reflexology pathway built on the East Coast, which is situated at NSU’s Medicinal and Healing Garden & Reflexology Pathway. Stones and flora from all over the world promote healing through the senses based on the ancient far eastern study of healing, making this setting an international living classroom. The garden will play a central role in the education of the public, students, and health care professionals. Evans is responsible for expediting the new design of the Medical and Healing Garden & Reflexology Pathway, which was part of the university’s commitment to wellness and integrative medicine education.

The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum is sponsored by Larry Calderon, Ed.D., NSU’s vice president for community and governmental affairs. Taking place each Friday from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., these forums allow speakers from the university to present on a vast array of topics, including their latest programs, research, campus activities and more. The forum includes breakfast as well as a question and answer session at the conclusion of the presentation. The next Speaker’s Forum will be held at the Alvin Sherman Library, room 4009. Following Evans’ 20-minute presentation, guests will then join him and international landscape architect, Jesse Durko, on an exclusive guided tour and barefoot walk of the unique 66-foot reflexology pathway.
