Lia Hemphill, M.L.S., M.B.A., director of collection development at NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library; and Laura L. Ramirez, M.L.I.S., director of library services at NSU’s North Miami Beach Campus, will be the featured speakers at the NSU Speaker’s Forum on Nov. 12. They will talk about added value offered by the NSU library system.

Hemphill has a master’s of science from Simmons College, School of Library and information Sciences and an M.B.A. from NSU. She has worked in libraries for over 25 years. Some of her past positions include being a solo librarian for a boiler manufacturer, acquisitions and serials librarian for a law school, and spending time in acquisitions and serials for an academic library. Ramirez received her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Texas-Pan American, and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She was a reference librarian and assistant professor at Texas A&M University-Kingsville for six years prior to joining NSU in 2000.

The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum is sponsored by Larry Calderon, Ed.D., NSU’s vice president for community and governmental affairs. These forums allow speakers from the university to present on a vast array of topics, including their latest programs, research, campus activities and more. The forum includes breakfast as well as a question and answer session at the conclusion of the presentation. The next Speaker’s Forum will be held in room 4009 at the Alvin Sherman Library.
