NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Dr. Larry A. Calderon

Jenny Chang, Ph.D.

Jenny Chang, Ph.D., Nova Southeastern University alumna and certified county court mediator in Florida, will be the featured speaker at NSU’s Speaker’s Forum on Friday, Mar. 9. Her presentation is titled: The Role of Trust in Building Enduring Relationships.

Chang, who is originally from Taiwan, received her doctoral degree in conflict analysis and resolution from NSU’s Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS). Due to her belief in alternative dispute resolution, Chang chose to pursue her doctoral study at SHSS’s Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution. In the course of study, Chang was trained to teach graduate-level conflict resolution courses. In addition, she has been engaged in extensive research on topics that include cross-cultural approaches to conflict and conflict resolution, intercultural communication, trust and peace building, and trust transformation involving forgiveness and reconciliation. Her dissertation, entitled “Building Trust: The Lived Experiences of Ethnic Chinese,” explores the factors that help initiate, build, and maintain trust in close relationships.

To apply what she has learned, Chang practices as a certified county court mediator in Florida. She has provided a series of free conflict resolution workshops to underserved populations on topics including anger management, effective communication, trust building, and forgiveness. Chang has also presented at globally known professional conferences on topics related to building trust and repairing relationships, providing community (conflict resolution) services to underserved populations, and cross-cultural approaches to conflict and conflict resolution.

The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum, hosted by Calderon, takes place each Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Forum will be held at the Huizenga Business School, Room 5026. For more information, please contact Tracey-Ann Spencer at straceya@nova.edu or 954-262-5208.
