NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Dr. Larry A. Calderon, Jan. 21
Fran L. Tetunic, J.D., professor and director of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Clinic at NSU’s Shepard Broad Law Center, will be the feature speaker at NSU Speaker’s Forum on Friday, Jan. 21. Her topic will be juvenile mediation.
Having created and continuing to direct the law center’s Juvenile Mediation Program, Tetunic and her students provide pro bono mediation services for juveniles arrested for first-time misdemeanors, their families, and alleged victims. The mediation program allows the juveniles to be diverted from the Juvenile Justice System, and the mediation process allows the families to address the underlying issues that gave rise to the child getting into trouble. In June 2010, Tetunic completed over eight years of service on the Mediator Ethics Advisory Committee (MEAC), a standing committee of the Supreme Court of Florida. She was appointed to the committee by chief justices, and selected as chair by fellow MEAC members. During her tenure as chair, she signed 65 MEAC opinions.
The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum, hosted by Larry A. Calderon, Ed.D., NSU vice president of community and governmental relations, takes place each Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The audience is treated to a delicious hot breakfast and an opportunity to learn about the fascinating people that make NSU a great university. The Speaker’s Forum will be held in the President’s Boardroom, Horvitz Administration Building. For more information, please contact Tracey-Ann Spencer at straceya@nova.edu or 954-262-5208.
