NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Dr. Larry A. Calderon

Beth Cain, general manager of the Nova Southeastern University’s Bookstore.

Beth Cain, general manager of the Nova Southeastern University’s Bookstore and Tami Garvey, the Bookstore’s assistant store manager, will be the featured speaker at NSU’s Speaker’s Forum on Friday, Feb. 17. Their presentation is titled: “NOOK Study: The Evolving World of eTextbooks.”

Cain relocated to the Bookstore from the University of Memphis Bookstore, where she was the store manager for nine years. During her tenure at Memphis, Beth doubled the used textbook business offering the students a greater value when purchasing their textbooks. She strives to provide excellent customer service to all NSU faculty, staff, and students by training and developing her staff on exciting innovations in the textbook world including the NookStudy.  Offering a variety of solutions to the high cost of textbooks, the NSU Bookstore has over 1,500 titles available digitally, while many titles are available for rent during the semester.

Tami Garvey, the Bookstore’s assistant store manager.

Garvey has been overseeing Bookstore’s Textbook Department for over 3 years.  She strives to communicate with NSU bookstore contacts about the benefits of early book requests, important news regarding innovations in the book industry, and various reports to help book liaisons and our faculty better understand the “Textbook Cycle.” A big part of this ‘cycle’ includes getting the book lists for the Bookstore’s varied programs across Florida, the U.S., and abroad. Getting the book lists early enables the bookstore team to source cost saving opportunities for our students by offering used, rental, and digital books. These options save students up to 60 percent off the new bound textbook. Garvey has worked for Barnes & Noble College for 12 plus years, with most of those years at FAU-Davie Bookstore as the store manager. She has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the NSU Community and hopes to continue to grow our partnership for an ever evolving NSU.

The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum, hosted by Larry A. Calderon, Ed.D., NSU vice president for community and governmental relations, takes place each Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.  The forum will be held at the Carl DeSantis Building room 5026 (Board of Governors Room).
