NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Dr. Larry A. Calderon, Feb. 10




Yin C. Tea, O.D., FAAO, an assistant professor and chief of pediatrics and binocular vision at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Optometry.




Yin C. Tea, O.D., FAAO, an assistant professor and chief of pediatrics and binocular vision at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Optometry, will be the featured speaker at NSU’s Speaker’s Forum on Friday, Feb. 10 3. Her presentation is titled: “Pediatric Eye Care: Beyond 20/20”. It will cover two things:
1) Learning-related visual skills, and   
2) Evidence-based amblyopia and convergence insufficiency treatment.

Tea received her B.S. from UCLA in 1995 and her doctorate of optometry from Southern California College of Optometry in 1999.  Following graduation, she completed a residency program at State University of New York College of Optometry in Binocular Vision and Vision Therapy.  She is currently a full-time faculty member at NSU’s College of Optometry, where she is also a pediatric residency program coordinator. As a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and member of College of Optometrists in Vision Development, the American Optometric Association, and the Florida Optometric Association, Tea has presented lectures, posters and/or continuing education for all of the aforementioned associations.  She provides additional local, national and international continuing education on a variety of pediatric and binocular vision topics and is involved in research on topics such as accommodation, strabismus, amblyopia and vision therapy.

She is NSU’s principal site investigator for the multi-centered NEI-funded Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group and has researched numerous pediatric and binocular vision topics such as amblyopia and convergence insufficiency.  She has published several refereed journal articles and posters on pediatric and binocular vision topics.  She recently co-authored a textbook chapter titled Strabismus and Amblyopia Treatment and Diagnosis in the book Vision and the Patient with Special Needs: Diagnosis and Management.

The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum, hosted by Larry A. Calderon, Ed.D., NSU vice president for community and governmental relations, takes place each Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The forum will be held at the Carl DeSantis Building room 5026 (Board of Governors Room).
