NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Dr. Larry A. Calderon, April 29
Ioana Popovici, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Department of Sociobehavioral and Administrative Pharmacy at NSU’s College of Pharmacy, will be the guest speaker at the NSU Speaker’s Forum on Apr. 29. She will talk about the economic costs of underage drinking in Florida.
Popovici received her doctorate in economics from Florida International University in 2007. Prior to coming to NSU, she worked with the Health Economics Research Group at the University of Miami. Popovici’s research is concerned primarily with the economics of substance abuse treatment and substance use consequences.
Her publications include articles in various economics and multidisciplinary peer-reviewed journals including Health Economics, Social Science & Medicine, Evaluation Review, American Journal of Health Promotion, and Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, as well as a review article published in the Oxford Handbook of Substance Use Disorders. Popovici has worked with several academic collaborators of many disciplines and state officials, and has served as investigator on several grants and contracts funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and the Florida State Department of Children and Families.
The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum, hosted by Larry A. Calderon, Ed.D., NSU vice president for community and governmental relations, takes place each Friday from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. The audience is treated to a hot breakfast and an opportunity to learn about the fascinating people that make NSU a great university. The Speaker’s Forum is held on the second floor of the Horvitz Administration Building in the President’s Board Room.
