NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Dr. Larry A. Calderon, Apr. 1
David S. Loshin, O.D., Ph.D., dean of NSU’s College of Optometry and Linda S. Rouse, O.D., COO of NSU’s The Eye Care Institute, will be the featured speakers at the NSU Speaker’s Forum on Apr. 1. They will talk about NSU and the nonprofit, Kids In Distress, opening an optometry and dental clinic in Wilton Manors.
In his role as dean of the NSU’s College of Optometry, Loshin has been instrumental in developing creative programs including the Optometry Extended Program, the Preliminary Optometry Program, and an online masters of science in clinical vision research. Under his leadership, NSU’s The Eye Care Institute and the clinical arm of the professional program has grown with the most advanced instrumentation and utilization of electronic medical records. Loshin has taught a variety of courses in both the professional and graduate program with emphasis on geometrical and physical optics. His major research interests involve design and evaluation of image quality of lenses and lens systems and assessment of the visual system primarily for patients with visual pathology and low vision.
Since joining NSU’s College of Optometry in 2003, Rouse has developed an optical education curriculum for the third-year students and obtained corporate donations for the purchase of five new computers for the optical service at the Davie campus branch of NSU’s The Eye Care Institute. Rouse is currently the director of optical service education. She teaches optical service, optometric theory, and method laboratory. Rouse has been a guest lecturer in courses for the second and third-year students, as well as the physician assistant program at NSU’s College of Allied Health and Nursing. Rouse is a candidate for fellowship for the American Academy of Optometry. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association, Florida Optometric Association, and active in the local society and the Broward County Optometric Association.
The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum, hosted by Larry A. Calderon, NSU vice president for community and governmental relations, takes place each Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The audience is treated to a delicious hot breakfast and an opportunity to learn about the fascinating people that make NSU a great university.
