Nora J. Quinlan, M.S., M.A., director of reference at NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library.

Nora J. Quinlan, M.S., M.A., director of reference at NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center will be the featured speaker at the NSU Speaker’s Forum on May 28. She also oversees the library’s second floor gallery. She will share information about the gallery’s latest exhibit, the James McNeill Whistler collection, which explores the artist and printmaking. The exhibit, called The Defining Line: Whistler and Friends as Printmakers, shows McNeill’s work and those he influenced.

Quinlan holds a B.A. in history from Queens College, City University of New York, an M.S. in library service and an M.A. in art history from Columbia University. She has worked at NSU since 1991.  Previously, she had worked as the head of special collections at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and as an assistant special collections librarian at the University of Kansas.  She has extensive training and experience working with artwork, rare books, manuscripts, photographs, and ephemera.

The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum is sponsored by Larry Calderon, Ed.D., NSU’s vice president for community and governmental affairs. Taking place each Friday from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., these forums allow speakers from the university to speak on a vast array of topics, including their latest programs, research, campus activities and more. The forum includes breakfast as well as a question and answer session at the conclusion of the speaker’s presentation. This week’s Speaker’s Forum will be held in room 2053 at the Alvin Sherman Library.
