NSU Speaker’s Forum Features Ronnie Oller, Aug. 27
Ronnie Oller, community organizer, philanthropist, and wife of Robert S. Oller, D.O., CEO of Nova Southeastern University’s Division of Clinical Operations., will be the featured speaker at the NSU Speaker’s Forum on Aug. 27. She will be talking about the NSU annual mega-event that’s dedicated to kids called “A Day For Children.”
The eighth annual A Day For Children health fair, organized by Oller, will feature free health care and education for children ages birth to 15 years. They will receive screenings for vision, medical, speech, behavior and dental, as well as physical and occupational therapy, all of which are provided by NSU’s Health Care Centers. Social services and other resources will be available through collaborations with NSU’s vast network of community partnerships to meet the behavioral needs of Broward County’s children.
Oller has dedicated her life to community service. Being the wife of Robert Oller, who is one of NSU’s top health care officials, has given her the opportunity to be closely involved in NSU’s mission of community service. In 1997, she chaired the first independent fundraiser for diabetes, raising $97,000 for research. She is a member of the board of directors for the Prestige Club, Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center, Boys and Girls Clubs, NSU’s Mailman Siegel Institute for Early Childhood Studies, and NSU’s Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences. She has been an active participant of the Diabetes Valor Award, Diabetes Step Out, and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital ANF Tour de Broward. She has received many awards for her contributions including: Presidential Award in 2007 for over 4,000 lifetime volunteer hours; 2006, the Advocate of the Year award for children by the American Women’s Business Association; 2008, Women of the Year award for Speaking of Women’s Health; voted in 2009 and 2010 as one of 100 women of the year in Broward County; 2010 Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies award; and 2010 Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention award.
The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum is sponsored by Larry Calderon, Ed.D., NSU’s vice president for community and governmental affairs. Taking place each Friday from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., in the Boardroom of the Horvitz Administration Building, these forums allow speakers from the university to present on a vast array of topics, including their latest programs, research, campus activities and more. The forum includes breakfast as well as a question and answer session at the conclusion of the presentation.
