NSU Sharks Rowing Varsity 4 Wins SSC Championships
The NSU women’s rowing team finished third in the team standings at the Sunshine State Conference Championships held Apr.24 at Canal 54. The Sharks totaled 14 points by winning the Varsity 4 and placing third in the Varsity 8.
For the fifth-straight season, NSU captured the Varsity 4 championship. The boat of coxswain Heather Clayton, Elizabeth Hurley, Amber Morrell, and Sarah Patterson advanced to the finals by winning the heat with a time of 8:03. The boat then raced 8:19.1, beating out Florida Tech and Barry.
“It is a great honor to win the conference race,” said Hurley. “Florida Tech raced fast, but we held out and won.”
“Today in the Varsity 4, the women did a tremendous job, coming back on Florida Tech, who they were behind at SIRAs,” said head coach John Gartin. “The women in the Four felt their race came together well. It was good to see them earn their victory.”
