Pride Bite: NSU Students Embrace Service

Service trip flyer--frontDid you know? The Student Leadership & Civic Engagement Office reports that NSU students logged 12,051 service hours during the 2013-14 academic year. However, this number reflects the work of 993 students. Countless NSU students travel locally, nationally and internationally to provide service to communities in need without reporting their volunteer work.

The Student Leadership & Civic Engagement Office works with students to provide a variety of leadership and service programs.

The next service trip organized by the Student Leadership & Civic Engagement Office will be to Orlando (Feb. 13-15), where students will be working at the Farm Workers Association (FWAF) in Apopka, Florida. Participants will spend the morning helping clean their fields and use the afternoon to learn about and go on the Lake Apopka Toxic Tour. FWAF’s guiding vision is to ensure a social environment where farm workers’ contribution, dignity, and worth is acknowledged, appreciated and respected through economic, social, and environmental justice. This vision includes farm workers being treated as equals, and not exploited or discriminated against based on race, ethnicity, immigrant status, or socioeconomic status.
