The Ministry of Other Things: Magic and Rebellion in the Black Diaspora
Creative writer and cultural studies scholar Andrea Shaw M.F.A, Ph.D., Assistant Director and Associate Professor Division of Humanities, NSU’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, will read an excerpt from the manuscript of her new magical realist novel that is set in Jamaica amidst the turmoil that ensued after the United States demanded the extradition of an alleged Jamaican drug lord. The reading will be accompanied by a short lecture on the historical function of black magic-religious practices in the New World.
