NSU Research Chief Meets with Dominican Republic President
Gary Margules, Sc.D., NSU’s vice president of research and technology transfer, was invited by Leonel Fernandes, president of the Dominican Republic, to travel with a group of business leaders from South Florida to the Dominican Republic from Jan. 17-19. The country has 40 universities and a successful information technology incubator in its capital city of Santo Domingo. President Fernandez is interested in establishing technology transfer programs in the Dominican Republic. Margules was invited by Fernandez after meeting the president during his visit to NSU in November 2010.
“During the trip to the Dominican Republic, I discussed technology transfer best practices with the president and officials from the government,” Margules said. “I found it very rewarding to meet and talk to people so receptive to our ideas and eager to learn. I was also gratified to learn that these same people hold NSU and our degree programs in very high regard.”
