NSU Puerto Rico Pharmacy Students Celebrate Pinning Ceremony

The Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy (NSU-COP) Class of 2016 of the Puerto Rico Regional Campus gathered with family, faculty and staff to celebrate their Pinning Ceremony on May 7, 2015 at Centro para Puerto Rico, Fundación Sila M. Calderón. COP Dean Lisa Deziel, Pharm.D., Ph.D. pinned each of the 43 pharmacy students with the Class of 2016 pin to commemorate the end of student’s didactic courses and the beginning of their advanced pharmacy practice experiences.

Pharmacy Intern Coordinator of VA Caribbean Medical Center and NSU alumnus Carlos Méndez, Pharm.D., served as the guest speaker, while President of CooPharma Elda Sierra and President of Droguería Betances Raúl Rodriguez both gave advice about the industry and a special gift to each student. Additionally, COP Assistant Dean Blanca I. Ortiz, Pharm. D., presented a Certificate of Recognition to Ambassador Mentor Nahirony Sánchez (’16) for winning the Shark Pin Design Class of 2016 Competition held by NSU-COP. Class of 2016 President Brian Colón gave a heartfelt speech on behalf of his classmates about their academic and personal experiences during the last three years. The night ended with a special presentation by P3 student Patricia Medina, who sang to the public as a token of appreciation for her classmates and the faculty.

COP faculty present at the activity included Yarelis Alvarado, Pharm. D., Lillian Arce, Pharm. D., Kalumi Ayala, Pharm. D., Frances Colón, Pharm. D., Julie Marín, Pharm.D., Enrique Nieves, Ph.D., and Georgina Silva, Ph.D. Also the Coordinator of Admissions and Student Services Gloria Acosta and Administrative Assistants Lourdes Laboy, Tanaira Tapia and Jessica Durán joined the occasion. PR COP Ambassadors that helped during the ceremony where José Lugo (’18), Yeiry Pérez (’18) and Crystal Figueroa (’18). The NSU alumni Carlos Méndez, Pharm.D., and Olga Álvarez, Pharm.D., presented each ambassador with a NSU pin to represent their Shark Pride!
