NSU’s Public Safety Department was looking for ways to highlight NSU’s Core Values as well as the departmental core values. “While each member of the department had a clear understanding of how their roles supported the core values, we wanted a way for them to be able to visualize them on a routine basis,” said Shane Lam, associate director of Field Operations for NSU’s Public Safety Department.

Shortly after running across some random sketches made by Public Safety Officer Monte Zerbe, it occurred to Lam that perhaps Zerbe could lend an assist in bringing the core values “to life.” With the approval of the Director of Public Safety Jim Ewing, Zerbe began sketching pictures that would depict both NSU’s and the Public Safety Department’s Core Values.

Zerbe, who joined Public Safety in 2013, has been sketching since high school and is a ‘self-taught’ artist. He graduated from Coral Shores High School in Tavernier, Fl., and received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

The Public Safety Department worked with NSU’s Office of Publications and also Facilities Management to finalize and place the final renderings which are prominently displayed in the officer’s briefing room.
