NSU Professor Emeritus & Author of Baseball’s Last Great Scout speaks at NSU

Daniel Austin, Ph.D., NSU Professor Emeritus and Author of Baseball’s Last Great Scout spoke to a crowd of 80 guests about the life of Hugh Alexander on Oct. 8 in the Cotilla Gallery at the NSU Alvin Sherman Library. The event was co-hosted by the Sherman Library and the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship.

Attendees included Huizenga Business School faculty, administration, students and NSU executives along with NSU Baseball Coaches Gregory Brown and Pete Woodworth. Also present were members of the South Florida Senior Softball Team, of which Austin is a member, Austin’s family and friends and Circle of Friends representatives and guests. NSU Professor and Chair of Leadership for the Huizenga School of Business, Barry Barnes, Ph.D. introduced his former colleague, who had been his history teacher in 9th grade in Kansas. Austin spoke about the life of Hugh Alexander, a 20 year old kid from the oil fields of Oklahoma, who became the youngest scout ever in Major League history.  Austin’s lively presentation included personal stories and demonstrations by members of the audience.
