Morton A. Diamond, M.D., medical director of the Physician Assistant Program, based at NSU’s main campus in Davie and part of the College of Health Care Sciences, was honored at his 50th anniversary alumni reunion of medical school graduation. The Alumni Association of the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center presented him the “Special Contribution in Cardiology” award. The award recognized his important research in echocardiography (ultrasound diagnosis of heart disease), physiologic mechanisms of blood pressure control, and valvular disease of the heart. Further, he was cited for his clinical care of patients, medical administration leadership, and teaching of medical and physician assistant students. Finally, note was made of his vigorous advocacy of physician assistants in care of patients who have cardiovascular disease. Diamond is the founder of the Association of Physician Assistants in Cardiology and former chief of the medical staff at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, FL.
