NSU College of Pharmacy class of 2015 Pharm.D. candidates Catalina Acosta, Raquel A. Caporella, Nicole Y. Derisma, Federica H. Hulett, and Melissa Santibanez, and their faculty mentor Joshua Caballero, Pharm.D., BCPP, placed first with their research poster “Assessment of atypical antipsychotic agents as a treatment modality in elderly Parkinson’s psychosis.” The research poster competition took place at the Student National Pharmaceutical Association’s 41st Annual National Conference in Arlington, Virginia in July.

The research posters, which were submitted by students as well as pharmacists, were chosen based on topics that highlighted contributions regarding pharmaceutical care for medically underserved populations. Competing against other research posters, NSU College of Pharmacy student pharmacists demonstrated their knowledge and passion for the pharmacy profession. They were highly recognized by several judges not only for their poster but for the level of knowledge, critical thinking skills, and oral presentation they demonstrated during the competition. One judge commented, “This poster is the quality of a faculty member. The level of critical thinking was extremely high.” The students were excited to win a cash prize but more importantly to have the opportunity to compete at a national level and represent the NSU College of Pharmacy in a positive light.
