A student team from NSU’s College of Pharmacy placed third in the poster presentation competition during the 126th Florida Pharmacy Association Annual Meeting and Convention in Fort Lauderdale (June 30-July 3, 2016). The title of the poster was “Improving Adherence in Type I Diabetics Through Mobile Application.”

The team consisted of students Anihara Hernandez, Stephanie Palma, Farima Raof, Natalia Leyva, Dean Motley, and Jonathan Gerardo under the guidance of Mutasem Rawas-Qalaji, B.Pharm., Ph.D., associate professor, and Jaime Riskin, Pharm.D., clinical assistant professor.

The students showcased an example for one of their innovative ideas to improve patient’s health and medication adherence. They designed an interactive mobile app to monitor, educate, and guide young diabetic patients to take control of their health through the use of an attractive and commonly used technology among young generations with the capability of instantaneously sharing patient records between the pharmacist and the patient’s primary physician.
