NSU Pharmacy Students Place Second in Poster Competition

Members of NSU’s poster competition team pose at FPA’s 124th Annual Meeting and Convention

Members of NSU’s poster competition team pose at FPA’s 124th Annual Meeting and Convention.

A team of NSU College of Pharmacy students came in second place at the Florida Pharmacy Association’s (FPA) 124th Annual Meeting and Convention poster competition, with less than a point separating them from first place. The team, comprised of Class of 2015 students Jigisha Bhagat, Harshal Desai, Neelam Gazarian, Darshan Masalawala, Paras Patel, and Nishant Talati, under the guidance of their advisor Elizabeth Sherman, Pharm.D., presented a research poster titled “Antiretroviral Therapy and Risk of Polypharmacy.”

The main objectives of the research were to establish trends of polypharmacy causing drug-drug interactions among HIV-infected patients and to develop a drug interaction tool for prescribing clinicians. The research will be published in the upcoming issue of Florida Pharmacy Today, which is published by FPA.

FPA held a poster presentation competition in Fort Lauderdale earlier this month with six Florida pharmacy schools competing, in which the NSU pharmacy seminar 2014 award winners represented NSU with pride.
