NSU Participates in Ninth Annual SSC SAAC ELITE Weekend

NSU Student Athletes Participates in Ninth Annual SSC SAAC ELITE Weekend.

Two Nova Southeastern University student-athletes represented the athletic department this past weekend at the Sunshine State Conference SAAC ELITE Weekend.

The retreat, held at the conference office in Melbourne, Fla., served as a way to bring together all nine conference institutions, as well as incoming schools in Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle, together to share ideas and assess leadership styles. NSU was represented by rower Bethany Warlich (Jr., Galloway, N.J.) and baseball’s Steven Fleming (Sr., Palm City, Fla.). Also in attendance was former student-athlete and SSC SAAC President Roberto Baroniel.

The weekend started with a DiSC assessment. All student-athletes in attendance took a brief survey that evaluated their leadership style. From there, the student-athletes were introduced to varying work styles and how to “flex” with people who think and work differently.

On Saturday night, Sept. 26, the student-athletes went out to dinner and had a bowling night. On Sunday, Sept. 27, Baroniel led a discussion of best practices among varying institutions pertaining to SAAC participation and fundraising for Make-A-Wish. Several administrators were also in attendance to share their thoughts and experience. Saturday, Sept. 26, also included a round table discussion with SSC commissioner Ed Pasque. The commissioner was candid and transparent, taking questions from each individual student-athlete on the current state and future of the SSC.
