NSU Participates in “Day in the Life of a Nurse” for High School Students

NSU College of Nursing’s Entry-Level Nursing Program (main campus) participated in Day in the Life of a Nurse on Friday, Nov. 7. Each year, the Nursing Consortium of South Florida, a coalition of hospitals, nursing schools, and health care staffing organizations, organizes this event to promote a partnership with South Florida public school districts and many private high schools. A total of 41 South Florida facilities and 44 schools participated this year. More than 1,000 students from Tavernier to Jupiter took part in the program.

The Fort Lauderdale Entry-Level Nursing Program welcomed 28 senior high school students from Fort Lauderdale High School and their teachers to NSU’s Nursing Education Center. The high school students had the opportunity to learn more about nursing by working with entry-level nursing students and faculty. They provided various hands-on activities for the high school students such as taking vital signs and changing dressings while working with NSU nursing students. A number of the high school students indicated they aspired to a career in nursing. This is the third year the main campus has participated in this event.
