NSU Orlando Physician Assistant Students Raise Funds for Wounded Veterans
On June 9, 2018, the Nova Southeastern University–Orlando Physician Assistant (PA) Program Class of 2019 hosted the Inaugural Golf Charity Tournament—‘Fins on the Fairway Event’. The charity event was held at Twin Rivers Golf Club in Oviedo, Florida and was predominantly put together by Steven Valentine, PA student, who received great support from his fellow students, Brannen Davis, Fadi Essak, Stephanie Shanks, Kevin Slagoski, Alex Witmer, and Zach White.
The Orlando PA students raised over $8,600 and all of the proceeds went directly to the local veteran’s organization, Fairways for Warriors. The Fairways for Warriors is a veteran’s charity organization that provides hope, healing, and fellowship to the combat wounded veterans and their families by utilizing the game of golf as a means of forming a community to bring families together as one. The goal of the ‘Fins on the Fairway’ event was to raise funds and community awareness to the Fairways for Warriors, so that they could continue to provide the services and recreational activities that enhance the physical, cognitive, and emotional health of wounded veterans.
The Nova Southeastern University—Orlando Physician Assistant Program hopes this becomes an annual even to benefit the wounded veterans of Orlando and the greater Central Florida area. They would like to thank all of the event sponsors and the many volunteers who came out and supported the event. Your support is highly appreciated, as the event would not have been possible without the continued participation of the community.
