NSU Orlando PA Program Hosts Inaugural Golf Tournament

On July 20, the NSU Orlando Physician Assistant Program sponsored their first ever golf tournament which raised money for a local charity called Paul’s Project. Founded in Florida, Paul’s Project is a charity that seeks to provide basic comforts to families who suddenly find themselves with a sick child in the hospital. PACKS or Parent Accessory Care Kits, containing toothbrushes, deodorant, blankets, and socks as well as many other necessities are provided to families during their sudden stay in the hospital. Paul’s Project’s mission is to “provide hope where there is hopelessness” and aims to make an unexpected stay in the hospital easier for parents of a sick child. The class of 2014 was excited to select such a wonderful, local organization for the tournament.

The PA class of 2014 hosted the 20 teams of four at Hawks Landing Golf Course in Orlando to raise awareness for Paul’s Project.  Volunteers from the class of 2014 and 2015 came out and helped to provide the players with a free breakfast, lunch, and a custom t-shirt.  Many volunteers rode around the course offering cold water to players trying to stay cool in the Orlando heat.

To raise money for the event, the classes of 2014 collected hole and raffle sponsors, and were able to obtain 20 sponsors from businesses in the local Orlando area.  Before the tournament, two sponsorship nights were held at local restaurants that helped raise over $200 for the event. Raffle tickets were sold throughout the tournament and items such as gift cards, movie tickets, yoga passes, and a baseball signed by Edwin Encarnacion from the Toronto Blue Jays were among the many prizes.  When the final number was tallied, the tournament helped raise over $6,000 for Paul’s Project  which can be used to provide PACKS, hope, and a smile for 150 families in need.

The tournament was successful due to the hard work and dedication of many individuals as well as the commitment and determination by the class of 2014. Congratulations!
