NSU Orlando Hosts Guidance Counselors Development Day
NSU Orlando Student Educational Center hosted a professional development day for Guidance Counselors of Orange County Public Schools (OCPS). More than 140 guidance counselors attended the event which focused on bullying in schools. Ralph Cash, Ph.D., professor at NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies (CPS) and a nationally recognized licensed psychologist, is an expert on the subject of bullying prevention and gave the main presentation on Bullying, School Violence and Nutrition.
In addition to a presentation on the CPS programs, Bridgette Varisco provided an overview of NSU’s undergrad programs to the high school counselors, covering features such as Dual Admission and Bright Futures, which are geared towards students who are interested in pursuing studies in the field of psychology.
This professional development day was conceived, planned and executed by NSU Orlando team members Doug Crowell, Derrick Osso, and Mirtha Bailey. Its resounding success led to the commitment for NSU to host and participate in the OCPS department chair meetings on Feb. 14 and May 9. Plans for NSU’s involvement also include visiting several high schools.
