NSU Optometry Student Receives Two National Awards

Noble

Optometry student Ashley Noble

Ashley Noble, a third year doctor of optometry student at NSU’s College of Optometry, earned two awards during the National Optometric Association’s (NOA) 48th annual convention on July 6-10 in Chicago. She received The Cave Memorial Award and the Dr. Robert Johnson Pediatric/Vision Therapy Award for demonstrating a commitment to community service related to pediatric conditions, binocular vision, and vision therapy.

The NOA has been a leader in the cause of improving the quality and accessibility of eye care in minority and other historically underserved communities. Increasing the number of minority eye care practitioners, through student recruitment and career placement, has been the NOA’s historical focus. In recent years, the organization has expanded its activities in the areas of patient education, devising campaigns and forming alliances designed to empower at-risk populations with greater awareness of eye care issues. With hundreds of committed members nationwide, the NOA is represented in a variety of clinical settings, educational institutions and other centers of influence in the profession of optometry. NOA members also are committed role models, serving to promote better health and other endeavors in their respective communities.
