NSU Optometry Professor’s Research Recognized Nationally

Jessica Steen, O.D., FAAO

Jessica Steen, O.D., FAAO

College of Optometry Instructor, Jessica Steen, O.D., FAAO, was featured in an article titled “OCTA useful for early detection in diabetic retinopathy” on Healio.com. The article highlighted a press conference, sponsored by the American Academy of Optometry, where Steen presented her results from a study titled “The role of OCT angiography in detection of microaneurysms in patients with diabetes mellitus”. Steen found that optical coherence tomography angiography detected microaneurysms that were not seen in fundus photography.

Steen received her optometric degree from the University of Waterloo with Honors and completed her residency in Primary Care with Emphasis in Ocular Disease at the NSU College of Optometry. Her main clinical interests include neuro-ophthalmic, retinal and anterior segment disease with emphasis in medical and surgical management and research interests include retinal imaging modalities in neuro-ophthalmic disease. She is a peer-reviewed published author in the field of retinal disease and retinal oncology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
