NSU Optometry Professor receives the President’s Distinguished Professor Award

NSU President’s Distinguished Professor Award winner Bai-Chuan Jiang, Ph.D., NSU College of Optometry Professor.

Nova Southeastern University’s College of Optometry is delighted to announce the selection of professor Bai-Chuan Jiang, Ph.D., as the first recipient of NSU’s President’s Distinguished Professor Award.  This prestigious honor is presented annually to a full-time faculty member who has served NSU for at least 10 years, earned a distinguished reputation for instruction, research, and scholarship, and achieved national and international notoriety for his work. Evidence of Jiang’s contributions were reviewed by a NSU-wide peer committee, and the award was selected by NSU’s Provost Frank De Piano, Ph.D.

This honor comes as no surprise to the many students Jiang has taught since joining the College of Optometry in 2000. Known for his calm demeanor, ability to simplify complex concepts, and compassionate nature, Jiang has been selected as the first year class’ Professor of the Year five times. A 1986 graduate of the Shanghai Institute of Physiology, Jiang’s Ph.D. degree is in physiological optics.  He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Toronto’s Department of Physiology, Penn State University’s Department of Psychology, and the University of Houston’s College of Optometry between 1987 and 1990.  Jiang has obtained several research grants, and published approximately 70 papers and 83 abstracts during his career.  His current research interests include the oculomotor mechanism for the development of refractive error, modeling of the visual system, and evaluation of retinal image quality.  Jiang is the course master for theoretical optics 1 and 2 and their accompanying labs.  The College of Optometry is proud to have Jiang selected for this prestigious award.
