NSU Nursing Students Attend State Conference

FNA Convention Photo

Entry-level students from three of NSU’s campuses recently convened at the Florida Nurse Student Association (FNSA) annual convention in Daytona, Florida.

Entry-level students from three of NSU’s campuses recently convened at the Florida Nurse Student Association (FNSA) annual convention in Daytona, Florida. The College of Nursing delegation included 65 students from the Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, and Miami. In commemoration of FNSA’s 60th anniversary, the convention theme celebrated the many facets of nursing with numerous speakers and sessions for the students to attend. In addition, FNSA as a branch of the Florida Nurses Association (FNA) prepares students to advocate for the nursing profession through open discussion and passing resolutions through the FNSA’s House of Delegates.

The College of Nursing is proud of all the students who represented NSU. Each campus is a chapter within the FNSA and in a different region. Three students from NSU ran for state office as regional directors, including Jamal Bernard, Elizabeth Berri, and Victoria Sheppard. Bernard was elected Region 5 Director from the Fort Lauderdale campus. This is the first time a NSU student has held office at the state level.

The convention has a friendly competition among the schools for National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) Jeopardy. The Fort Myers Campus participated and was runner-up in Final Jeopardy. Throughout the year, chapters from all over the state compete for “Best Chapter” Awards. The following awards were given to NSU students:

Fort Lauderdale NSA: Award for Chapter with the Largest Increase in Membership Numbers

Fort Myers NSA:

Award for Best Chapter in Breakthrough to Nursing
Award for Best Chapter in Community Health Service
Award for Best Chapter in Legislative Activities
