NSU Names State-of-the-Art Research Facility in Honor of Guy Harvey

Dr. Hanbury and Dr. Guy Harvey

NSU President and CEO George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D. and Guy Harvey, Ph.D.

With the sun on their shoulders and their faces kissed by a warm ocean breeze, nearly 300 Nova Southeastern University students, faculty, staff and invited guests came together to honor one of the university’s long-time supports, Guy Harvey, Ph.D.

“Dr. Harvey is one of us,” said Richard Dodge, Ph.D., dean of NSU’s Oceanographic Center. “He’s a scientist, conservationist, scholar, educator, artist, diver and fisherman. We’re thrilled that our relationship with Dr. Harvey will continue to benefit NSU and, most importantly, our students for many more years to come.”

Thanks to Dr. Harvey’s generosity, NSU named its state-of-the-art research facility the NSU Guy Harvey Oceanographic Center. Along with the physical manifestation of his name on the side and top of the building, even more important is that NSU is able to establish an endowment that supports undergraduate and graduate scholarships for students to become the next generation of ocean managers, researchers and conservationists.

“We couldn’t have named this facility for anyone more fitting than Dr. Guy Harvey,” said George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., president and CEO of NSU. “He’s a researcher, a conservationist and is passionate about the world’s oceans – he really is a perfect fit with NSU.”

After the tarp came down from the side of the building revealing the new name, Dr. Harvey made his way inside to the auditorium along with President Hanbury to sign a mural he painted when the building first opened. Along with his name appearing on the side of the building, Dr. Harvey’s easily recognizable signature, along with the NSU and City of Hollywood name will adorn the roof of the building.
