NSU President and CEO George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., informed the NSU community of the passing of former U.S. Congressman and NSU Board of Trustee member, E. Clay Shaw, Jr. Shaw passed away Sept. 10 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
Eugene Clay Shaw, Jr. served as a member of NSU’s Board of Trustees from January 26, 2009 until his passing. “NSU has been honored to have had Clay Shaw as an advocate for the university,” said Hanbury. “He was a trusted advisor, friend, and an enthusiastic supporter of NSU for several years. His vision and wisdom will be greatly missed.”
Born in Miami, Shaw received a B.S. degree from Stetson University, an M.B.A., from the University of Alabama, and his J.D. from Stetson University College of Law. He practiced law for a number for years before entering into politics. As a civic leader, Shaw served the City of Fort Lauderdale as Mayor from 1975 to 1980 prior to being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1981. Shaw represented the 22nd congressional district until 2007, which at the time included Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
