NSU Remembers Professor Edward Lieblein, Ph.D., Dean Emeritus at Memorial Service, May 12
The university will holding a memorial service for Ed Lieblein at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 12 in the Faculty Club. We are expecting friends of Ed from around the university as well as some of Ed’s family. All are welcome to attend.
A message from Chancellor Ray Ferrero, Jr.:
I am very sorry to inform the Nova Southeastern University community that Professor Edward Lieblein, Ph.D., Dean Emeritus of NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences, passed away over the weekend after a five-year battle with cancer.
Our thoughts and our prayers are with Ed’s family and friends, and we are all saddened by his passing.
During his life, Ed spent more than 16 years as dean of our computer sciences school, and had more than 50 years of experience as an executive, professor and administrator in the public, private and academic sectors. Ed was also an internationally recognized authority in the fields of computer science and information systems.
As dean, Ed presided over an enrollment and revenue growth of more than 300 percent; the establishment of 10 new master’s, Ph.D. programs and concentrations; the creation of nine cooperative programs with other NSU colleges and schools; the award of a chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (the International Honor Society for the Computing and Information Disciplines); and the certification of the school’s curriculum in information security by the U.S. National Security Agency for compliance with national training standards for information assurance.
He also led the effort culminating in the designation of NSU as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the U.S. National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
