NSU Men’s Golfer Earns Medalist Honors Again at Otter Invite
Nova Southeastern University men’s golfer Richard Mansell
Nova Southeastern University men’s golfer Richard Mansell successfully defended his individual title, while the Sharks as a team finished as runners-up, as the 2015 Otter Invitational final round concluded on Tuesday.
Mansell (Jr., Staffordshire, England) birdied the first playoff hole to take medalist honors for the second consecutive season in Seaside, winning over Taylor Hood of CSU-San Bernardino. Both finished regulation play after 72 holes at 210, with Mansell following up two under-par rounds with a 3-over on Tuesday (69-66-75).
The Sharks were topped by Chico State by four strokes in the team standings, 859-863. Host school CSU Monterey Bay was third, eight behind NSU, with Simon Fraser (882) and CSU-San Bernardino (883) rounding out the top five.
Second on NSU, carding his third progessively lower score with an even-par round on Tuesday was Ethan Marcus (So., Boca Raton, Fla.), 21st at 219 (74-73-72). Juan Jose Guerra (Fr., Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) was in the red for the second 18 in a row, going 1-under to finish 25th with a total of 220 (80-69-71).
Santiago Gomez (Sr., Armenia, Colombia) was the model of consistency on the Black Horse course, shooting his third 74 in a row to tie for 37th with a 222. Fellow senior Hunter O’Mahony (Jupiter, Fla.) had the biggest improvement of the day for the Sharks, seven strokes lower with an even-par 72, finishing 49th at 226 (75-79-72).
NSU has one more tournament in the autumn portion of their schedule, at next week’s McDonough Cup, hosted by fellow Sunshine State Conference school Rollins. The two-day event, at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, will start Monday, Oct. 26.
