NSU Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine Hosts Monthly Seminars, Oct. 6

Dr. Shannon Murray

Shannon Murray, Ph.D.

The INIM is pleased to host Shannon Murray, Ph.D., at the monthly INIM Research Seminar Series on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 12:00–1:30 p.m. at the Center for Collaborative Research on the 2th floor, room 242.

Murray is an assistant professor in the College of Allopathic Medicine and the Cell Therapy Institute at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). Murray’s expertise transverses the areas of viral and cancer pathogenesis, genomics, and immunology. Her laboratory work focuses on which components of the immune system control the size of latent viral reservoir during HIV infections as well as why many chronic viral infections increase cancer risk, including why HIV-infected individuals have higher rates of certain cancers than the population at large. Murray recently served as a study section reviewer for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on Cancer Immunotherapies.

Murray has published research in the journal Blood, the Journal of Virology, and the Journal of INIM SEMINAR FLYER for October 2017Immunology, and has authored a chapter in the Encyclopedia of AIDS. Murray completed a Ph.D. at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, and was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Daniel Douek, M.D., Ph.D., at the Vaccine Research Center of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the NIH in Bethesda., Maryland.

Murray’s lab received a State of Florida Institute of AIDS and Emerging Infectious Diseases Pilot Award. She collaborates with other researchers at NSU and with the Karolinska Institute on projects related to innate immunity and cancer; as well as with physician-scientists at the Miami Veterans’ Affairs Hospital, on projects aimed to understand increased rates of cancers in HIV- and chronic virally-infected individuals.

Join us as she lectures on “Harnessing the Innate Immune System to Eradicate Viral and Tumor Reservoirs.” You won’t want to miss it!

These seminars are scheduled to be broadcasted to regional campuses, upon request. For additional information and upcoming seminar series, please see attached flyer.
