NSU Institute for Child Health Policy Hosts 8th Annual “Fore the Kids” Golf Tournament, May 4
NSU’s Institute for Child Health Policy (ICHP) will be hosting its 8th annual “Fore the Kids: Saving Lives Golf Tournament” at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club on Friday, May 4. Participants will receive a premium gift bag, enjoy high-end entertainment, take foursome photographs, have lunch, and participate in an awards reception with special guests at the 19th hole.
The annual event is a fundraiser for the ICHP at NSU, which works to improve healthcare of children and their families through common sense policy making and practical programs that get real help to the families who need it.
In conjunction with the golf tournament, ICHP will also host a continuing education forum. This year’s topic centers on using television and other forms of media to promote Breast Cancer Awareness to women of color. All proceeds from the 2012 Golf Tournament will go toward this cause.
Additionally, and in association with the research forum, LPGA Champion Cristie Kerr and her mother Linda Kerr will receive the 2012 Kate Platt Child Advocate of the Year Award. This award is given to an individual whose achievements and career contributions have made a significant difference in Broward County’s maternal and child health policy, or programs towards improving their health, well-being and safety.
Cristie grew up in Miami, and her mother and godmother were both diagnosed with breast cancer. She is involved with Birdies for Breast Cancer and the Liberty Health System Cristie Kerr Women’s Health Center.
NSU ICHP is partnering with Liberty Health in the development and evaluation of a 30-minute episode on Breast Cancer in Women of Color, which they hope to air in October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) on 40 PBS stations in both English and Spanish.
