NSU Hosts President’s Faculty Research and Development Grant (PFRDG) and Quality of Life Awards Ceremony

The ceremony for the  17th Annual President’s Faculty Research and Development Grant (PFRDG) and 14th Annual Quality of Life Awards  was recently held in the Don Taft University Center on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus.

NSU President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., and Vice President for the Office of Research and Technology Transfer Gary Margules, Sc.D., recognized 25 research projects that received PFRDG awards up to $15,000 each for fiscal year 2017. The 25 PFRDG awards represent 10 academic units involving 43 faculty and 43 students for a total of $370,828.  Overall a total of 52 PFRDG proposals was submitted.

Three Quality of Life Community-Based Applied Research Grant awards of up to $10,000 were presented in the areas of Elderly Services, Elderly Services and Transition Skills/Programming, and Obesity and Children and Families for fiscal year 2017.  The awards were presented by Barbara Packer-Muti, Ed.D., executive director of the Office of Institutional and Community Engagement and chair of the Quality of Life.

The president thanked faculty members, as well as Broward County Community Partners, who represented the Quality of Life project submissions, including the Outstanding Community Partner of the Year – the Town of Davie – which was accepted by Vice Mayor Susan Starkey.

Nancy Klimas, M.D., director of the Institute for Neuro Immune Medicine, gave the closing remarks. Klimas is also chair of Clinical Immunology, professor at NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and the 2015 Provost’s Research and Scholarship Award winner.
