NSU Hosts President’s Faculty Research and Development Grant (PFRDG) and Quality of Life Awards Ceremony
The 16th Annual President’s Faculty Research and Development Grant (PFRDG) and 13th Annual Quality of Life Awards ceremony was held on May 12, 2015 in the Don Taft University Center on NSU’s main campus.
NSU President and CEO George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., and Vice President for the Office of Research and Technology Transfer Gary Margules, Sc.D., recognized 24 research projects that received PFRDG awards up to $15,000 each for fiscal year 2016. They also recognized the dedication and innovation of the 100 faculty members and 89 students from the 19 academic units, who submitted a total of 48 PFRDG proposals.
There were eight Quality of Life submissions from 42 faculty and 9 students, representing 12 academic units and 11 community agencies. Of these submissions, five awards of up to $10,000 were presented in the areas of Adult General, Children & Families, Elderly Services, Criminal Justice, and Autism for fiscal year 2016. Kimberly Durham, Psy.D., was recognized for her outstanding leadership in chairing the Quality of Life Council since its inception in 2002. Barbara Packer-Muti, Ed.D., executive director of the Office of Institutional and Community Engagement, will now head the Quality of Life Council and Community-Based Applied Research Grant Competition. With this transition, NSU will be able to maximize university resources and existing community relationships behind Quality of Life, to effect positive and lasting change.
President Hanbury thanked faculty members and Broward County community partners that represented the Quality of Life project submissions. He announced Broward Health as the Outstanding Community Partner of the Year and presented representative Audra Hutton Lopez with the award.
