NSU Hosts “Boomers & Beyond” Health Fair with more than 500 Participants

South Florida baby boomers and older adults recently enjoyed access to free health assessments at NSU’s 7th annual Boomers & Beyond, A Day For Health And Wellness on Apr. 1.

More than 500 participants, aged 40 and older, had access to the assessments, which included assessing peripheral artery health, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, bone density, foot health, memory, medication, mental health, and skin health.

The theme of this year’s Boomers & Beyond was “A Healthier YOU Starts Today!” The event also included wellness information and health education (including diabetes prevention and management, neurology, exercise information and demonstration, and nutrition and healthy eating), to help people learn about prevention and disease management.

NSU faculty experts also provided information on how to live healthier lives and engage in wellness activities. Aging and health information was provided by organizations such as 2-1-1 Broward, AARP Florida, Alzheimer’s Association of SE Florida, Broward Health Community Health Services, Broward County Elderly & Veteran Services, Lighthouse of Broward, Memorial Regional Hospital South, NSU Health Care Centers, other NSU institutes, and many other organizations.

Florida Telecommunication Relay, Inc. also gave away free FTRI phones (for the hearing impaired) for those who qualified, and the NSU Lifelong Learning Institute presented its virtual classroom where one can view expert lectures on a variety of topics.

Giveaways and raffle prizes rounded out the fun afternoon of learning about being healthier at this year’s Boomers & Beyond.
