NSU Salute to Veterans & Service Members, Nov. 11

NSU President George Hanbury at the 2009 NSU Yellow Ribbon Scholarship Reception on Nov. 10, 2009. He will be the emcee for the 2010 NSU Salute to Veterans and Service Members this month.

NSU proudly recognizes the contributions those who serve in the military (as well as their families) make to our country.  To honor these brave men and women, this month the Office of the President will host a private reception for the NSU military community, including veteran students/staff, active service members, and the executive administration.

However, on Veteran’s Day we would like the entire NSU community to salute their contributions. We ask  all veteran students/staff and active service members  to dress in their service uniforms and attend the 5th Annual Homecoming Tailgate, noon -2:00 p.m., at Shark Fountain outside of the Don Taft University Center. For more information, visit http://www.nova.edu/safspecialevents/homecoming/ or call (954) 262-7283.

The idea for the NSU Salute to Veterans and Service Members (formerly NSU Yellow Ribbon Scholarship Reception) was born last year, when the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) introduced the Yellow Ribbon Scholarship. Through the Yellow Ribbon program, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, colleges and universities voluntarily enter into an agreement with the VA to offer reduced tuition and fees to veterans who served in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. NSU eagerly partnered with the VA to make over 500 scholarships available to eligible students for a total institution match of $1,263 million. For the 2010-2011 academic year, NSU has increased its contribution.  For more information on Veterans benefits at NSU, visit http://www.nova.edu/financialaid/veterans/index.html.
