NSU to hold FOMA Health Fair, Apr. 30

NSU will hold a health fair for children and adults on Apr. 30 at the Tower Shops/Home Depot Shopping Plaza. The NSU-Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA) Health Fair for Children & Adults, sponsored by NSU’s Health Professions Division and FOMA’s Student District Society, will have blood pressure and diabetes (glucose) screenings. Walgreens and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida will also be on site to assist in screenings.

The health fair will offer the public a chance to learn about health care services provided by osteopathic physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, psychologists, vascular sonography technicians, and other health-care providers. Experts in pediatrics, family medicine, public health, nutrition, smoking cessation, and others will also be at the event. Memorial Healthcare System of South Florida will be offering HIV and cholesterol testing for adults, and immunizations and school physicals for children.

The Davie fire and police departments will be on hand to greet children, giving them a rare opportunity to meet real local heroes. There will be a bounce house for the kids, as well as Nintendo Wiis provided by GameWorks to show how including exercise in your daily life can be fun. A DJ from NSU’s student radio station, Radio X, will be playing music for the event, and NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and FOMA will be serving food. Several local restaurants and businesses will be there to help sponsor food, giveaways, and door prizes. There will also be an opportunity to donate blood and sign up to be an organ donor. The health fair will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Tower Shops/Home Depot Shopping Plaza on University Drive between Nova Drive and Interstate 595.

For more information, please call Austin Bach, president of FOMA’s Student District Society, 201-394-4729.
